N-set, I understand you do not mean to hijack the thread with the Axiom, so I actually tried to make generic and/or thread-related observations. I don't know the 6E5P, but generic issues with specific DC tank circuits and driver and output tube stab...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]Celsius, I do not know what CCS you impended, did you drive 6e5p’s plate with constant current source?*1 I also do not know/like 6e5p with battery bias. The only application that I find 6e5p suitable was the Milq-style bi...

So it is time to think about the bass output
transformer in my DSET. My bass channel will be 8 x 25W/8565-00 each side
set in a sealed box and will cover the frequency range below say 100Hz.
These drivers can be ...

If you don't already know of it, here is a link to interesting German site (in English as well) with loads of info on Tube testers : http://www.jacmusic.com/Tube-testers/index.html If you scroll down to this phrase : "SHORT OVERVIEW OF TUBE TESTER FE...

Hi Romy,Well, I do not pretend to "know" those Rare-Gas zeners very well, neither to have "listened" (so to speak) to any. They are so low-performance devices when compared to the silicon technology that it is technically a pity, but, it doesn't prev...

The more I deal with 6C33C the more this tube amuses me. Couple years ago when I started to use a half of 6C33C for my upper frequency channels I wired right and left my Super Milq with half of 6C33C connected to right and left side of the tubes co...

It is only if you chose to employ tube rectification. Many people claim that tube rectification affects sound greatly in this or that way and they are right, it does. However, it does only because the circuit is designed to be affected by recti...

[quote user="floobydust"] Some very good points here... if I downloaded the correct schematic from your site for the 6-channel Melq amp (also has the term DSET in the title) then you have created a 6-channel SET amp with built-in crossover points. Yo...

Hi there every one.A brief about system. Marantz transport---Acustic Arts DAC II-----Krell HRC preamp-----Krell FPB 600 class A amp---B&W 802.Previously i had a pair of carry 805 SET amps which drived Klipsch KLF 30 any how i was getting a good ...

I've used both tube and solid-state rectification over the years and much is well documented for power supplies, i.e., old ARRL manuals, Tube manuals, etc.. In most cases small value filter caps were shown, as you really couldn't get much in la...

Dear Cat, I own tube and SS tuners, and the ones I own now follow a list of other tuners I have owned over the past few years. My SS tuner is an Accuphase T-100. My tube tuners are a Sherwood S-3000V and a Mac MR-67. The difference between a good tub...

[quote user="Paul S"] The 6N6Ps I bought are nothing "special" as far as I know, but they are all tested and to spec, according to the seller, so I will also replace my current 6N6Ps when the new (NOS) batch arrives, and I will note any changes in so...

Why use the GM70 apart from its power potential? For one thing, it seems to require literally lethal voltages to become remotely listenable. Is it really "that" linear, to insist on it?But my experience with GM70 is quite imited. I ...

Romy,I added the fuse recently just for protection for the output transformer since these 6C33C tubes plate current can get very high and might damaged them. Also DC coupling on this high gm tube can cause plate current to go max if something failed....

I looked at the schematic for Herb's 300B SET many years ago. It's been copied and slightly modified by many.... personally, I would not use it for a 300B amp... then again I probably wouldn't use it for a 2A3 or 45 either (I think my input/driver d...

KM,
Very good points. There is one more moment that I would like to pay attention. The new prediction tubes are more powerful then vintage tubes. They all claim 1 extra watt because “better materials were used”. So, I wonder, if it would be possible...

While my Obbligato caps are traveling from Asia and instead of finish my MF amplifier and listening it I am blowing up my steam about the amp at my site there is a subject that I would like to share.
Melquiades MF DSET is made to utilize not o...

Hi Romy,[quote user="Romy the Cat"] I would discard the test disk truck– I never use it. Take a silent space between the cuts (test disk!) and make a needle at your operational VTF to be in stationary ay a bit more than a half record. In fact it is ar...

Little I know about tube testing. Here is a link to one that can do a test series on tubes at rated voltages, including 6C33 (with extra-cost adaptor, of course), and it will compare sections at once: http://www.amplitrex.com/index.htmlSucc...

ZZ, I'm thinking, ramp up the properly-sequenced DC first (and perhaps we go on from here to the earlier-discussed matter of heating and shutdown sequences for each tube...). After that, when I send signal, I start low and ease up on the volume until...

I do not know why Placette
does not work in your situation. You do not have enough volume? If it is the
case then you might have too low gains in your front end. All my front ends
have very high gain: Bidat, Lavry, my...

Yes, it would be very interesting to hear the difference between a 6C33C amp with and without tube regulation, but also they are too many thing to try too, ... the possibility is endless here.My recent experience with two different ...

I unpacked the Gold Grids 6C33C that I got from Bulgaria. Upon very meticulous inspection I did not find that they were in any way different then the regular grid tubes. I did not open a tube to check it further. It is possible that the Bulgarian gu...

You might try these: http://www.goodsoundclub.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?postID=1093#1093Still, I think Yamamoto sockets shell be fine. The material of the sockets base – would it be Teflon or anything else is less relevant. You need to wary about the ...

Romy, in the contrary, it is very unfair to compare my 845 amp with the 6C33C. The main reason is the 845 amp used the best output/interstage transformer available, while the 6C33C's output xformer is pretty good but far from being best for the 6C33C...
